What do we do in the I.L.C?
The I.L.C which stands for the Independent Learning Centre, is open to all pupils who want or need to use it, either on a regular basis or as a “one-off” occasion. Pupils are “time-tabled” to come to the centre to work with the staff within the area, or to work independently using the facilities that the I.L.C provides. We also work with class groups or provide space for pupils to do revision and coursework.
Pupils that use the I.L.C;
• Gifted and talented
• Pupils with English as a second language
• Pupils that have any “catch-up” work to do
• New pupils to the school
• Any pupils in a vulnerable position
• Pupils in danger of falling behind with work
• Pupils who have attendance problems
• Small groups or pupils who need computer space to access our schemes of work
• Pupils who need some help with literacy and numeracy
Any pupil can be referred to the I.L.C if a member of staff thinks that they would benefit from some time with us. We will always welcome any pupil who appreciates a calm environment in which to further their own learning.
We have a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants that work both in the I.L.C and in the classroom to help our pupils reach their full potential. My role as a Learning Mentor means that I also work closely with the Inclusion Team and with the staff in Sky Class.
