Physical Education Overview

Subject Title: Physical Education
Lead Teacher: Mr P Lamb
Number of lessons: 1

PE is a compulsory and core element of the National Curriculum until the end of Year 11. Students are expected to actively and constructively engage in the lessons to develop their understanding and skills, not only as a player but also as an official, coach, team manager or informed spectator.

All students are required and expected to bring a full change of clothing to actively participate in the arranged activities: IN SCHOOL = IN KIT.

KS3 PE is more structured and directed than at KS4 and the aims for this can be found in the appropriate link on the webpage. Our main theme however is Personal Improvement: it doesn’t matter how good you believe yourself to be when you start, with the correct approach to learning you can all make improvements be that in terms of your level of performance or understanding of the activity.

The Sport Education Model is adopted in Year 10, whereby students are encouraged to take on greater responsibility for the organisation and coordination of the activity: working in small teams to set out and clear away equipment, run skills practices, organise fitness training sessions and coordinate mini-festivals or tournaments for students in their own age group but also for lower school students.

Where possible at KS4, we try to make use of the Health and Fitness Suite at Yorkshire Coast College but we will also explore opportunities to bring in specialist coaches to broaden the curriculum we can offer and prepare you for an active lifestyle in the wider community.
